Q: Where are you from originally?
A: I grew up in Oregon, IL â about 30 minutes south of Rockford. Oregon has a lovely downtown charm with stunning hillside views along the Rock River. Believe it or not, but my wife and I met in Oregon in 2nd grade, and our parents reside there to this day.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time? Hobbies?
A: With two active boys, a huge portion of my spare time goes toward attending, coaching, and/or transporting to/from their various extra-curricular engagements. My oldest is busy with baseball and basketball, while my youngest is an avid gymnast/tumbler. Between those activities, we enjoy boating, camping, and fishing during the summer months. In the fall and early winter, youâd likely find me in the woods doing some hunting.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Iâm always a sucker for a good steak, but my favorite foods are mostly driven by the seasons.
During the winter months I enjoy chili and soups. The first brat or cheeseburger on the grill is definitely a staple for the spring. I look forward to sweetcorn in the late summer months and really enjoy turkey in the fall.
Q: Do you cook â if so, what is your specialty?
A: I really enjoy experimenting with my Bradley smoker. I enjoy making jalapeño poppers, pulled pork and wild game. My favorite food to cook on the smoker is a turkey on Thanksgiving morning!
Beyond the smoker, I enjoy cooking on our Blackstone (flat top). Its versatility allows me to cook steak and Southwest eggs for breakfast and hibachi chicken and shrimp with fried rice for supper.
Q: Do you have any pets?
A: We have two cats (Shadow and Tiger) that were both injured strays that we brought in and rehabilitated.
We also have two dogs (Nora and Zoey) that were rescue dogs from a shelter in Tennessee. Originally we were looking for a golden but found these two as golden retriever/border collie mixes. Nora fits the golden look but feels like a collie, whereas Zoey looks like a collie but feels like a golden, so we got the best of both worlds.
